Aims

Jurnal Review Politik (JRP) is an international, peer-reviewed journal published biannually by the Department of Islamic Political Thought, Faculty of Ushuluddin and Philosophy, UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya, Indonesia. The journal aims to provide a premier academic platform for advancing rigorous theoretical and empirical scholarship at the intersection of religion, politics, and governance. With a primary geographical focus on Southeast Asia and the broader Asian region, JRP is dedicated to bridging local and regional political phenomena with global political science discourse. The journal seeks to foster interdisciplinary dialogue by examining how political thought, democratization, and socio-political transformations in Asia contribute to and are shaped by comparative and international political trends.

Scope

JRP welcomes original research articles, comparative studies, and robust theoretical reviews that draw upon diverse methodological approaches. While the journal is firmly anchored in Political Science and Area Studies, it actively encourages interdisciplinary engagement from sociology, international relations, and public policy.

The substantive scope of the journal encompasses, but is not limited to:

  • Religion, State, and Society: The intersection of Islamic political thought, religious movements, identity politics, and state policies.

  • Comparative Politics in Asia: Democratization processes, political movements, electoral dynamics, and civil society activism in Southeast Asia and beyond.

  • Governance and Public Policy: Institutional reforms, local governance, political economy, and the socio-economic dimensions of policy-making in emerging democracies.

  • International Relations and Regionalism: Transnational political networks, ASEAN dynamics, diplomacy, and global security issues affecting the region.

Editorial Expectations

To uphold international scholarly standards, JRP does not publish purely descriptive country reports or localized case studies lacking broader relevance. The journal strictly prioritizes manuscripts that:

  • Demonstrate a clear and novel theoretical contribution.

  • Engage actively with contemporary, international scholarly literature.

  • Employ rigorous, transparent, and replicable methodologies.

  • Offer analytical and comparative insights that connect Asian political dynamics with broader global frameworks.
