Mutawatir: Jurnal Keilmuan Tafsir Hadith is a biannual, peer-reviewed, open-access international journal published in June and December by the Department of Qur’an and Hadith, Faculty of Ushuluddin and Philosophy, Universitas Islam Negeri Sunan Ampel Surabaya, Indonesia. The journal is dedicated to advancing the scholarly study of Qur’anic and Hadith interpretation by integrating classical Islamic exegetical traditions with contemporary interdisciplinary approaches. It aims to foster critical dialogue within the humanities and social sciences, highlighting the enduring relevance of the Qur’an and Hadith in diverse cultural, social, and intellectual contexts worldwide.

The journal publishes original research articles in English to ensure accessibility to a global academic audience. It employs rigorous qualitative methodologies, including hermeneutical, comparative, and contextual analyses, to explore the dynamic relationship between sacred texts and contemporary issues. Mutawatir encourages innovative scholarship that bridges traditional Islamic exegesis with modern challenges, promoting nuanced perspectives on the Qur’an and Hadith as living traditions.

Mutawatir invites submissions on a broad range of topics within Qur’anic and Hadith studies, including but not limited to: Linguistic, literary, and hermeneutical analyses of the Qur’an and Hadith texts; Historical and contemporary commentary traditions, including the formation of interpretive authority; The influence of the Qur’an and Hadith on Muslim ethics, legal thought, and spiritual practices; Interactions between sacred texts and modern contexts, such as education, media, and digital culture; Comparative and cross-cultural studies, including translation and intercultural engagements; The Qur’an and Hadith as dynamic sources in shaping everyday practices and identity; and Interdisciplinary studies grounded in philology, history, anthropology, sociology, hermeneutics, religious studies, or digital humanities.

The journal places special emphasis on Indonesia’s rich interpretive traditions while promoting transnational and comparative research that situates local scholarship within the broader landscape of global Islamic studies. Mutawatir seeks contributions that offer theoretically robust and socially impactful insights, with relevance to academic discourse and policy development.

Mutawatir targets researchers, academics, graduate students, and policymakers engaged in Qur’anic and Hadith studies, Islamic studies, and related interdisciplinary fields. Since December 2015, Mutawatir: Jurnal Keilmuan Tafsir Hadith has been accredited at SINTA 2 level. This accreditation was renewed in 2021 by the Ministry of Research and Technology/National Agency for Research and Innovation, and again in 2025 under Decree No. 10/C/C3/DT.05.00/2025 by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, with validity extending through December 2028. Additionally, as of January 2026, Mutawatir has been indexed in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), reflecting its commitment to academic excellence, transparency, and ethical publishing practices.
