About the Journal
The Journal of Ushuluddin and Islamic Thought (JUIT) is a peer-reviewed international journal published by the Faculty of Ushuluddin and Philosophy, UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya, Indonesia. JUIT publishes original, high-quality research that explores the Qur’an and Hadith through both textual and contextual approaches, fostering innovative and interdisciplinary scholarship that advances their academic study in global contexts.
Rationale
The study of the Qur’an and Hadith as foundational Islamic texts remains central to Islamic scholarship. Yet, the field requires constant renewal in response to contemporary intellectual, cultural, and social challenges. While traditional approaches have emphasized normative interpretations, there is a growing need for critical, contextual, and interdisciplinary perspectives that address both classical heritage and present-day realities. Journal of Ushuluddin and Islamic Thought (JUIT) seeks to fill this gap by providing a scholarly platform that brings together diverse voices and methodologies in Qur’anic and Hadith Studies.
Topical and Interdisciplinary
JUIT encourages scholarship that is both thematically relevant and methodologically innovative. The journal embraces an interdisciplinary approach, drawing from fields such as linguistics, literary studies, anthropology, sociology, philosophy, history, comparative religion, manuscript studies, and digital humanities. Articles may address:
- Linguistic, literary, and thematic analyses of the Qur’an and Hadith
- In-depth studies of individual Qur’anic Surahs
- Hermeneutical and methodological frameworks in Qur’anic and Hadith interpretation
- Manuscript studies and textual criticism related to the Qur’an and Hadith
- Comparative studies with Biblical and other scriptural traditions
- Intersections between the Qur’an, Hadith, and the intellectual milieu of Late Antiquity
- Contemporary expressions of the Qur’an and Hadith in lived religious practices (Living Qur’an and Hadith)
Focus
JUIT aims to provide critical insights into both the theoretical foundations and practical developments of Qur’anic and Hadith Studies. The journal prioritizes high-quality, original research that contributes to broader academic debates rather than narrowly specialized discussions. It welcomes contributions that explore how the Qur’an and Hadith are understood, interpreted, and practiced across different contexts, and that engage with both classical scholarship and contemporary concerns.
