Abstract

This article delves into the philosophy and significance of Whirling Dervishes within the Kedai El Rumi Community in Surabaya. Employing direct observation as the primary research method, supplemented by secondary data from relevant academic literature, the study uncovers the intricacies of this spiritual practice. The findings reveal the meticulous ritual of Whirling Dervishes, starting with heart purification and intention-setting, followed by intricate movements such as toe bending and clockwise rotation. This dance offers emotional benefits, fostering clarity, tranquility, and happiness among practitioners. Whirling Dervishes at Kedai El Rumi provide a platform for emotional management and spiritual connection through art. Additionally, each movement in Sufi dance carries profound significance, aiding in personal growth and spiritual development. Furthermore, Whirling Dervishes serve to strengthen social bonds within the community, fostering solidarity and deepening collective engagement in religious practices. This underscores the broader impact of Sufi dance, not only on individuals but also on community cohesion and religious life.
